Meet Helena
Bio
Helena Lawton is a Tax Supervisor in the Durham office of DMJPS. She works with an array of individual and small business clients in the industries of Real Estate and Construction, Health Care, and others. She took a circuitous route to accounting, first pursing Master of Fine Arts degree in Poetry and Fiction as well as attending law school at Washington University in St. Louis where she received her Juris Doctor and Master of Laws in Taxation. As a result she is, at times, overly enthusiastic about statutory interpretation and the Glenshaw Glass Supreme Court decision of 1955.
Outside of tax she has published short stories under her maiden name in a variety of journals and anthologies including Copper Nickel, New Haven Review, and Best American Science Fiction and Fantasy. She is also a certified cave diver and former SCUBA and Nitrox Instructor. She and her husband both love to collect vinyl records, many of which she brings to the office; she finds Led Zeppelin particularly conducive to S Corporation returns.
