DMJPS is honored to share and announce the retirement of Arthur M. (Art) Winstead, Jr., CPA, honoring a career that has spanned more than 40 years of leadership, mentorship, and service.

Art has made an enduring impact on DMJPS and the accounting profession. For more than three decades, he led the firm’s accounting, auditing, and attestation services, helping to shape the high standards of excellence. His contributions to professional education and leadership have inspired generations of CPAs.

His influence extended to appointments, nationally, statewide, and internationally through his leadership in key professional organizations, including the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), the North Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants (NCACPA), the North Carolina Board of CPA Examiners, the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA), and CPAmerica International

Equally dedicated to his family and community, Art has served in leadership roles with the Greensboro Jaycees, Wyndham Championship Founders Club, and numerous civic, faith, and charitable organizations. His commitment to service has left a lasting mark on both the profession and the community he calls home.

“Art’s leadership, technical excellence, and deep commitment to the profession have shaped not only our firm but generations of CPAs across the country,” said Drew Haddock, Chief Executive Officer of DMJPS. “He has set a standard of excellence and integrity that will continue to guide DMJPS for years to come.”

Art’s service has included:

  • A three-year term on the AICPA Auditing Standards Board, where he also contributed to multiple ASB Task Forces, including Risk Assessment, Internal Control, and Fair Value considerations.
  • Nine years on the NC Board of CPA Examiners, serving two terms as President, three as Vice President, and two as Treasurer, as well as ongoing leadership on the Professional Standards and Personnel Committees.
  • Participation on NASBA’s State Mobility, Regulatory Response, and Global Standards Committees.
  • Chairmanship roles within CPAmerica, Inc., including leadership of the Accounting and Auditing and Continuing Professional Education Executive Committees.

Art has also served as a consulting and testifying expert witness in accounting, auditing, and financial matters for both state and federal government agencies and major law firms, authoring numerous continuing professional education courses and publications on accounting, auditing, fraud, and ethics.

Deeply committed to his family and his growing community, Art has been an ardent supporter of civic organizations, institutions, and faith. A life member and past president of the Greensboro Jaycees, where he served on the GGO Executive Committee (now the Wyndham Championship) and the Nike Greensboro Open Executive Committee. He currently serves as Treasurer of the Wyndham Championship Founders Club. His commitment to service extends deeply into faith and civic life—having served as Elder, Deacon, Sunday School teacher, Cub Scout Packmaster, youth advisor, and frequent committee chairman within the Presbyterian Church.

Art’s civic leadership includes service as Chairman and Treasurer of the Guilford County Democratic Party, and membership on numerous community boards and commissions, including the Old North State Council of Boy Scouts, Greensboro One Task Force, American Cancer Society, City of Greensboro Human Services Commission, Community Development Commission, Greensboro Transit Authority, and the Greensboro Center City Committee. He has served on the Board of Directors for Arts Greensboro and the Finance Committee for the Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro. His long list of past roles includes the Greensboro Coliseum Commission (Chairman), the City of Greensboro Comprehensive Growth Plan Steering Committee, and service on boards for organizations such as the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, the Guilford County Education Alliance, and the Greensboro Sports Council.

Art’s passion for leadership and community extends to politics, education, and business innovation—he has been active in federal, state, and local politics, and is a founding partner of Noah’s Ark Investment Club. An avid golfer, he can often be found at Starmount Forest Country Club, where he has served on the Board for eleven years, including three terms as President.
