DMJPS PLLC participated in our annual firm wide Day of Service event on Thursday November 16 and Friday November 17. Professionals in Greensboro, Asheville, Boone, Durham, Marion, Sanford and Wilmington offices committed to serving the needs of community partners including:
- Asheville Habitat for Humanity works with families in need of decent and affordable housing. Through homeownership and home repair programs, more than 2,100 adults and children in Buncombe County have achieved the strength, stability and self-reliance they need to build a better future. Members working with this group helped with home renovations and repairs.
- Bounty and Soul is committed to developing a supportive and reciprocal relationship between Bounty & Soul and local farmers and growers while connecting the community to local produce and gardening education.Members assisted in the produce garden by turning compost and prepping the beds for the next planting season.
- Creative Aging Network strives provide innovative arts programming and education to enhance the well-being and social connection among older adults throughout North Carolina. Members working with this group joined in yard work especially involving their international garden.
- F.A.R.M. Café is a pay-what-you-can community cafe that operates primarily with volunteers. Preparing high-quality, delicious meals produced from local sources whenever possible and served in a restaurant where everybody eats, regardless of means. Members working with this group assisted with cooking and other various kitchen tasks essential in keeping the café running.
- Greensboro Beautiful “The Big Sweep” partners with the City and citizens of Greensboro to conserve and enhance the beauty and ecology of our community. Members of this group joined together to remove litter from Latham Park, including the creek.
- Habitat Humanity Restore is a home improvement and donation center that sells new and gently used furniture, appliances, home accessories, building materials, and more to the public. Proceeds from their sales are used to help build strength, stability, self-reliance, and shelter in local communities and around the world. Members working with this group will help with various tasks within the restore.
- His Amazing Grace is committed to bridging the gap between the local church and the needs of the community. Members working with this group helped put together and wrap over 70 gifts for children who are experiencing homelessness or in foster care for their Christmas party this holiday season.
- Irene Wortham Center provides comprehensive, quality residential and day services in a caring atmosphere for individuals with developmental and/or socio-economic challenges. Members read books to the residents of all ages and helped restore reading materials.
- The Servant Center is the only transitional program in the area that exclusively serves veterans with disabilities to become independent, contributing members of the community through housing, healthcare, and restorative services. Members working with this group helped sort the foot pantry, organize donations and supplies and shredded documents.
- Tiny Houses Greensboro is a coalition of diverse individuals and local organizations who aim to reduce homelessness by engaging in public and private partnerships to create tiny home communities. Members of this group helped to recycle Styrofoam that is used for insulation and help build the tiny house frames.
- Wilmington Area Rebuilding Ministry (WARM) objective is to repair, rebuild, and make homes accessible; and to inspire service, generosity, and hope. WARM works to rebuild homes in disrepair or damaged by severe weather supporting homeowners’ goals to remain self-sufficient and live with dignity and independence. Members working with this group worked alongside of contractors making safety and health-related home repairs and accessibility upgrades.
On Thursday, November 16, DMJPS CPAs + Advisors also recognized SHIELD Mentor Program as the DMJPS Nonprofit of the Year at the 2023 Celebration of Guilford County Nonprofits hosted by Guilford Nonprofit Consortium. SHIELD Mentor Program was among one of four finalists at the annual celebration where contributions from area leaders were recognized.
